Our Story

Learn more about how and why Crooked Pines School was started and the ethos that guides our curriculum.

Outdoor Learning

It is our goal at Crooked Pines School to provide an experience for your child/ren that allows for learning through an array of modalities including nature, farm work, play, social interactions, and integrated lessons from the Oak Meadows homeschool curriculum.

Parent Testimonial

Crooked Pines School has been incredible for our 4-year-old. Unstructured play and hands-on farm chores have built confidence, independence, and a strong work ethic. Nature-based learning sparks creativity, while collaborative activities foster leadership and problem-solving. It’s a great environment for growth and resilience.

Outdoor Play

We believe that play is critical to early learning and development. At Crooked Pines School, we support the practice of many kinds of play and recognize the developmental benefits each can provide. Common types of play include solitary play, onlooker play, parallel play, cooperative play and imaginary play.

Crooked Pines School staff is also trained and experienced in supporting all children regardless of gender, age or physical ability in engaging safely in risky play, oppositional character, and rough and tumble play.

Connecting with Animals

At Crooked Pines School, we believe encouraging children to learn and understand all animals helps to foster empathy, compassion and maturity beyond their years. Animal husbandry is not something all children are exposed to but learning about where food comes from all while respecting wild animals and their needs expands children’s minds and understanding of our world.
