Our Story
Our story began in the Winter of 2022 when my daughter enrolled her and her then two-year-old son in a program – ‘Moms and Littles’. Designed for mothers and their children, the program facilitated parents immersing themselves in the natural world alongside their toddler.
My daughter started thinking about what formal schooling would look like for her son. She kept gravitating towards hybrid outdoor learning coupled with homeschooling. In this vision, she wanted to continue with the small community of mothers she had met at the program. She encouraged the program leader at the time to create a more formal ‘preschool’ version of the ‘Moms and Littles’.
This carried on, looking slightly different each year as the children grew to a full 4 day program on land owned by me and my husband. As connected members of the community, we were aware there was an obvious need in our area for alternative schooling options for both preschool and elementary aged children.
Knowing the continued need for alternative school options and the significant resources it takes to sustain such ventures, we started dreaming of a more formal and established program. We envisioned a nature based outdoor learning program using our farm and our woods which would evolve as the children aged. We hired Kate Milne soon after to help us to formalize policies, procedures and to collaborate and implement curriculum.
