Sample Day
At Crooked Pines School, the foundation of our daily planning follows the flow of the seasons. We are aware and embrace the fact that nature often delivers unexpected learning opportunities which we naturally flow into with excitement and curiosity. We use the homeschooling curriculum, Oak Meadow, to supplement learning.
9:00am: Our day begins with morning circle where we share gratitude and recite our daily poem.
9:30am: Farm chores; feeding the pigs, cows, chickens, goats and turkeys and, on some days, cleaning out the goat stall.
10:00am: We make our way to the forest wall tent in the Crooked Forest via many trails or the farm road which allows for discovery, spontaneous play, and opportunities for natural connection with each other and our surroundings.
10:30am: Snack and Story
11:00am: Experiential learning opportunity and or child-led play including but not limited to mud kitchen, water play, forest construction, imaginary play, etc.
11:55am: Sit Spot. Children sit at a chosen spot to have quiet observation time, tapping into all their senses and sometimes journaling.
12:05pm: Lunch, time to connect and converse as a group.
12:45pm: Experiential learning opportunity. This could include things like acorn processing, tinder and wood collecting, tracking, birding, cooking or something adapted from the Oak Meadow Curriculum.
1:45pm: Forest play followed by packing up and hiking out of the woods.
2:45pm: End of day circle with gratitude for the day.
3:00pm: Pick up
